HEADLINES
In their final weekend of campaigning, Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates embarked on an ambitions tour in battleground states urging their supporters to vote and hoping to persuade the undecideds. And on this final day of day of campaigning, yes the final day, Obama will spend his time in states that Bush won in 2000 and 2004 - Virginia, North Carolina and Florida. John McCain will visit 7 states on this final day of campaigning – he will also visit Florida as well as battleground states of Pennsylvania, Indiana, New Mexico, and Nevada. He will also make a stop in Tennessee, a state that is thought to be firmly behind McCain. He will end the day in his home state of Arizona, where the race appears to be tightening.
Democrat Barack Obama says he was unaware of the immigration status of his Aunt living in Boston. Once learning through a story by the Associated Press that his Kenyan Aunt has been living with out documents in Boston for the past four years, Obama responded by saying the law should be followed. Alleging that the information was leaked for political reasons, House Judiciary Committee John Conyers called it deplorable and is urging an investigation into who released the information. Obama's aunt could face deportation.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has three challengers in her race for re-election. She has refused to debate and has done little campaigning in her San Francisco district. One of her opponents, anti-war activist and military mom Cindy Sheehan led a protest outside public radio station KQED. KQED was broadcasting a 30 minute interview with Pelosi and has not offered the same media time to Sheehan and the other opponents. Because of the protest, KQED allowed Sheehan to call in a question to Pelosi. She asked why she would not allow impeachment proceedings of President Bush.
INTERVIEW 1
In this historical election, the country could elect its first black President. As voters head to the polls, will race play a role in their vote? Election Unspun Producer Karen Miller spoke with Martin Luther King III (the 3rd) about that. They also discuss Obama's role as it fits in with Martin Luther King Jr's dream.
INTERVIEW 2
To make some sense of where the race stands in this final day of campaigning, we turn to veteran political correspondent, Larry Besnky. Producer Karen Miller spoke with Larry Bensky about the final hours of this marathon campaign.
